Coleshill-based brand and digital agency PLOTT Creative are working with Birmingham’s International Synergies Limited to provide branding and creative support across a new local resource efficiency project supporting SME’s called BASIS (Birmingham And Solihull Industrial Symbiosis).

ISL are the world leading authority on industrial symbiosis, whereby one companies wastes or under-utilised resources can be repurposed to be used by other organisations. By doing this industrial symbiosis reduces costs, increases profits whilst at the same time benefitting the environment by reducing carbon emissions and diverting waste from landfill.

BASIS is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and is led by Birmingham City Council with the support of International Synergies. The BASIS project has already supported nearly 100 local businesses on their sustainable journeys.

International Synergies realised the challenge of promoting BASIS to the target audience. A branding boost and simplification of key messages were needed to successfully promote the industrial symbiosis concept. PLOTT jumped at the challenge as the project’s creative and digital partner.

“Working with the PLOTT was a perfect match, they ‘get us’ and have an active interest in local business. They took the time to understand our practices and helped craft our key benefit messages, so businesses wanted to be involved.”
IAN HUMPHRIES, BASIS project manager @ International Synergies

Through a series of brand development workshops PLOTT got under the skin of International Synergies’ offering, working with their team to define the business, key concepts and refine their messaging, really bringing the brand and BASIS to life.

With a dynamic range of digital and print marketing collateral, Birmingham City Council and International Synergies launched BASIS which also had the full backing of the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership. Similarly, BASIS has been supported by the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce who ran a workshop for their members to raise awareness of how local businesses can become more resource efficient and reduce their costs through BASIS.

“As a forward-thinking agency we are passionate about sustainability and innovation. We’re always proud to work with a business that’s helping Birmingham and Solihull to become more efficient as it benefits the whole community.”
